The Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) commended the effort from 14 states to hold TikTok accountable for harming children, as alleged in new lawsuits filed today. The lawsuits allege that “the popular short-form video app is harming youth mental health by designing its platform to be addictive to kids,” according to the Associated Press.
“Big Tech has harmed our children for too long. It is commendable that 14 states are working towards child protection with legal action to hold TikTok accountable. Our country’s leaders must work to shore up protections for children online, as youth face numerous threats to their health and well-being,” said Melissa Henson, vice president, Parents Television and Media Council.
“As other states like New Mexico sue Snapchat and Meta for child sexual exploitation, it is imperative that the tech industry is held accountable and begins to take digital dangers seriously.”
