Questions are being raised about the past of Joseph “Aime” Wichtendahl, a transgender Democrat running for Iowa House in District 80. According to court records, Wichtendahl had legal and financial troubles that included past-due child support and a protective order for domestic abuse.
According to documents, Wichtendahl was subjected to an administrative levy by the Child Support Recovery Unit in April 2017 for failing to meet child support obligations. In response, the bank was instructed to freeze Wichtendahl’s accounts until further notice. However, the following month the mother involved requested the release of the levied funds, which waived the owed child support.
In 2013, Wichtendahl was the subject of a temporary protective order following allegations of domestic abuse. Court documents show Wichtendahl was ordered to refrain from any contact with the petitioner and from committing further acts of abuse or threats.
The temporary protective order was issued on Dec. 3, 2013 until a Dec. 17, 2013 hearing, when it was canceled.
The Iowa Standard has previously written about Wichtendahl popping a hormone therapy pill during testimony at an Iowa Senate subcommittee as well as going on an unhinged rant against conservative Iowans.
The Iowa Standard previously reported that Wichtendahl wrote under the name “Dana DeYoung.” One of the first published works of “Dana DeYoung” online is “If I Stop Breathing.” It’s a fictional account of a transsexual porn star and prostitute. Here is the first paragraph of the post:
Here’s the thing- anal sex doesn’t hurt, at least not after the one hundredth time you’ve had it done to you. By now, at the age of twenty-two, I am so used to it that it’s about as painful and excruciating as a game of bridge. I just smile, breathe heavy, and pretend that I’m really into it so that all the Johnny Jackass’s out there will blow their loads and I can get paid.
It gets worse. And if you’re interested, you can find it here.
Then, there is this description Wichtendahl provides of Iowa in the story:
“The city sits more or less in the center of the vast agricultural wasteland that is Iowa.”
Wichtendahl goes on to say people in small towns like State Center, Iowa are “mind-numbingly backwards” and will reject a beef processing plant to help a town’s economy because the residents do not want the influx of Hispanics moving to their “safe, little white village.”
Wichtendahl is challenging Republican John Thompson. Thompson served in the U.S. Army and was part of multiple deployments to the Middle East. He founded a nonprofit that helps veterans and first responders with mental health struggles.
