Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended a previously deported man with a violent criminal history after he entered the U.S. illegally Friday evening east of Lukeville.

Ajo Border Patrol Station agents patrolling near the border discovered four individuals who entered the country illegally. All were transported to the Ajo Station for processing when agents discovered Jose Geovani Flores’ criminal record in the United States.

Flores, a Honduran national, was convicted in Travis County, Texas in 2011 for sexual assault and was sentenced to two years confinement.

Flores will remain in federal custody to face felony immigration charges in Arizona for his illegal reentry.

All persons apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal aliens with criminal histories are positively identified.

Federal law allows agents to charge individuals by complaint, a method that allows the filing of criminal activity charges without inferring guilt. An individual is presumed innocent unless and until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
