President Donald Trump has directed the White House Office of Management and Budget to begin the process of reviewing federal funding to five “lawless” jurisdictions, according to a release from Sen. Joni Ernst’s office.
Ernst put forward the Ending Taxpayer Funding of Anarchy Act in June. The legislation would restrict federal funding for “anarchist jurisdictions,” or jurisdictions that abdicate their “constitutional duty to their citizens to uphold the rule of law and provide police, fire or emergency medical services due to non-governmental actors.
Following U.S. Senator Joni Ernst’s (R-IA) urging, the president has directed the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to begin the process of reviewing federal funding to five lawless jurisdictions. Ernst’s bill continues to gain support from her colleagues.
“Exploiting peaceful protests to promote lawlessness is wrong. Local leaders in these cities have failed their people by forbidding law enforcement and emergency responders from doing their jobs, resulting in the tragic loss of life. Iowans shouldn’t foot the bill for the destruction and reconstruction of these liberal cities. I’m glad the administration has listened to my call for action; this anarchy cannot continue,” said Senator Ernst.
