National Democrats have compared last Wednesday’s protest at the United States Capitol to Pearl Harbor and 9-11.
Iowa State Sen. Rob Hogg did that on Monday.
“As I’ve been thinking about Officer Sicknick and the others who defended our Capitol Wednesday, I was reminded of these ordinary Americans who gave their lives defending our Capitol on Sept. 11, 2001,” he tweeted. “We must hold the organizers and perpetrators of the Jan. 6 attack accountable.”
I was in D.C. Hogg was not, to my knowledge.
Calling it an “attack” is abusive to the English language.
Capitol Police Officer Sicknick’s death is no doubt a tragedy. As is the death of Ashli Babbitt, the military veteran. All five deaths associated with the protest are tragic.
However, I don’t see the parallel between a terrorist attack with the intent of murdering thousands of Americans with Americans showing up in D.C. to protest at the Capitol.
