A few days ago the Hardin County Democrats put out a press release stating the group wishes to go on record as “strongly disagreeing” with the Iowa law that prohibits schools from enforcing mask mandates.

“We believe this is a politically motivated overreach by state government into matters that are much better handled on the local level,” the release said. “We believe the children and staff of our schools are being unnecessarily placed in grave danger simply to score political points. The risk is too great to our children, to school staff and to the community.”

The Hardin County Democrats said the law has removed “one of the most effective weapons we have to fight COVID-19.” The group called for Gov. Kim Reynolds to review the law and return control to the local level.

“This pandemic will not end until we start behaving responsibly,” they concluded.

That was the strong statement the Hardin County Democrats put out a few days ago — August 20, 2021.

But you know what is really interesting, just a couple of weeks ago the same group of Hardin County Democrats held a rally at South Hardin High School.

It was an event called “Rally for Rural Voices.” And it featured auditor Rob Sand, Rep. Ras Smith (who is running for governor) and Deidre DeJear (who is now also running for governor).

It was billed as a night of food, facts and fun. But you know, it seems the Hardin County Democrats left so-called “science” out of the picture!

The Hardin County Democrats posted photos of the event right to their Facebook page. This one shows the tables all set up. And wouldn’t you know it, it almost appears as though they had no plans for social distancing!

Surely, though, those who attend would be wearing masks — you know, to keep school staff and the community safe. Right?

Right?

I mean, come on. Tell me that’s right, especially considering the recent press release they just put out.

Cross your fingers…

So maybe the group had some anti-science folks attend. Surely the current vice-chair of the Iowa Democrat Party and current Hardin County Democrat Party Secretary would be following the science and setting an example for all of us.

Ugh. That’s rough.

Alright. I give.

Boy, these pictures sure make some of those lines from that press release seem really rich. And by rich, I mean really hypocritical. The only question left is if the Hardin County Democrats have enough self-awareness to realize just how ridiculous this all is?
