When Col. John Eidsmoe visited Iowa a couple of years ago, he spoke at length about a number of issues. But one that is worth revisiting is centered on The Declaration of Independence.

“I have a section here right toward the back of this book where I cite, well, it’s a long footnote of a whole bunch of Supreme Court cases where the Supreme Court has cited The Declaration of Independence as the fundamental law of the land,” Eidsmoe said. “One of the reasons that you would find that the ACLU and others would object to The Declaration of Independence is that by the way they want to interpret the First Amendment, with their misplaced idea of separation of church and state, The Declaration of Independence would be unconstitutional because of the way it talks about God.”
