Pastor Rob McCoy was asked a question during the breakout session on Church and Culture at America Fest 2022 a number of Christians have, but typically do not ask. He was asked how churchgoers can approach pastors about standing up and speaking out on their religious beliefs and how that intersects with politics.
He responded to remember that people are not the enemy, but the opportunity.
“You pray, you ask God for wisdom,” he said.
If you are a servant in the church and you contribute within your church, McCoy said the pastor will listen.
“Walk in and say I have invested my life and my family’s life in this fellowship and I have great concern about their future and liberty is not man’s idea, it’s God’s idea,” he said. “And you as the shepherd of the church — this is the beacon of freedom for our nation. And I’m gravely concerned that you don’t understand the mantle God’s given you. I don’t want to leave here, but I will. Not because I don’t like you as a person, I think you’re preaching is remarkable and I enjoy this church and I have relationships that would break my heart to leave, but I cannot stand idly by while we allow the culture to drive the church and not the church to drive the culture.”
McCoy said those in the room are experiencing an awakening of America.
“You’re going to be driving the pastors,” he said. “But do it in live and speak the truth in love, but speak the truth.”
