A majority of likely voters agree that the felony charges against President Donald J. Trump are bad for America.
Fifty-five percent said they believe the charges are bad for America while 39 percent said they believe prosecuting the former President is good for America.
Francey Hakes, a former federal prosecutor, said “this is a really serious time because this is banana republic sort of stuff. Using the law as a weapon against a political opponent is so wrong.”
Sixty-four percent of voters agree with that statement, including 48 percent who said they strongly agree that Trump’s prosecution is “banana republic sort of stuff.” Just 28 percent disagree.
Forty-two percent of voters said they believe the prosecution makes it more likely Trump will win the Republican nomination in 2024. Just 29 percent said they think it makes it less likely he will be the nominee.
While 61 percent of Democrats said the felony charges against Trump are good for America, only 25 percent of Republicans and 29 percent of unaffiliated voters agree.
