Convention of States Action, in partnership with The Trafalgar Group—one of America’s most accurate pollsters—is releasing the results of a new national survey. Results were from surveys conducted June 5th through June 9th of over 1,000 likely general election voters.

“Chairwoman McDaniel and the RNC leadership would be wise to remember their appropriate role in the Republican Presidential Primary Debates,” said Mark Meckler, President of the Convention of States. “The RNC’s current plan: that includes demanding candidates share their own campaign data, make a loyalty pledge, and have limited say in who moderates the debates, is a bridge too far and as this polling shows, not supported by a majority of Republicans—or the all important Independent voters. Voters want these debates to be about the candidates and their vision for our country, while the RNC is trying to make this about consolidating power for professional political insiders.”

KEY INSIGHT: Only 28 Percent of American Voters Support Plan from Republican National Committee for Republican Primary Debates:

• 28.2 percent of voters say the Republican National Committee should have the most influence in determining topics, times, locations, and moderators for the Republican Primary Debates.

• 47.4 percent of voters say that mutual agreement among Republican presidential candidates should have the most influence in determining topics, times, locations, and moderators for the Republican Primary Debates.

• 24.5 percent are not sure.

KEY INSIGHT: Majority of Republicans and Independents Want Candidates, Not RNC, Setting Terms for Republican Presidential Debates:

• 53.4 percent of Republican voters say that a mutual agreement among Republican presidential candidates should have the most influence in determining topics, times, locations, and moderators for the Republican Primary Debates. 32.8 percent say the Republican National Committee should have the most influence, 13.8 percent are not sure.

• 52.1 percent of Independent voters say that a mutual agreement among Republican presidential candidates should have the most influence in determining topics, times, locations, and moderators for the Republican Primary Debates. 22 percent say the Republican National Committee should have the most influence, 25.9 percent are not sure.
