President Donald J. Trump finished first in the Iowa Secretary of State’s 2023 State Fair Straw Poll with 1,501 votes. That total was good for 42.47 percent of those who selected a Republican ballot.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was second with 541 votes (15.31 percent). South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott was third with 392 votes (11.09 percent) while Vivek Ramaswamy placed fourth with 331 votes (9.37 percent).
President Joe Biden picked up 732 votes (66.97 percent of Democrat votes). Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received 205 votes while Marianne Williamson was third with 156 votes.
“We conduct the State Fair Straw Poll each year to encourage voter registration and participation in Iowa’s general elections,” said Secretary of State Paul Pate. “Voting is the best way to ensure Iowans’ voices are heard, and I want every eligible Iowan to register to vote. It is always interesting to see the final results because historically, the State Fair Straw Poll, while unscientific, has been a fairly accurate indicator of official election results.”
