Cedar Falls businessman and former city councilman Dave Sires announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for Iowa Senate District 38 at a reception Saturday held at AMVETS Post 49.

“Protecting freedoms and working for you. That’s my motto,” said Sires. “We’re blessed to live in a state that has put the people in charge and fights back against government overreach. As your next state senator, I’ll work tirelessly to ensure that Iowa remains the best state in the country to live, work, and raise a family.”

Sires has owned and operated Cedar Village manufactured housing community since 1991 and Added Self Storage since 2003. He was elected to the Cedar Falls City Council in 2019 and served a four-year term as councilman at-large.

“As a business owner, ensuring that Iowa’s economy continues to thrive is a top priority for me. Additionally, I want to help lower the tax burden for hardworking Iowa families so that they get to keep more of their hard-earned money.”

Sires and his wife of 41 years, Lisa, have three adult children, three grandchildren, and a German Shepard, Jack.

Iowa Senate District 38 covers parts of Black Hawk, Tama, and Benton counties representing the cities of Cedar Falls, Hudson, Evansdale, Elk Run Heights, Gilbertville, Washburn, LaPorte City, Traer, Dysart and Mount Auburn.
