On Thursday, Congressman Keith Self sent a letter to the DC Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Francisco J. Diaz, demanding he conduct an independent investigation and autopsies for the ‘DC Five.’

The DC Five were five unborn children discovered inside a cardboard box outside the Washington Surgi-Clinic abortion facility on March 25, 2022. Instead of immediately investigating the cause of death, the FBI arrested one of the women who discovered the bodies.

Photographic evidence of the five bodies leads numerous doctors to believe at least one suffered a partial-birth abortion. This gruesome, late-term practice is illegal under federal law—yet the Department of Justice opened no investigation into this case. In addition, DC city officials have stonewalled Congress’ requests for autopsies on the bodies of the five unborn children for nearly two years.

“The humanity of these children is incontrovertible. They were human beings, weeks from birth, growing just as we all do from conception to natural death and they were brutally killed by abortion,” said Congressman Keith Self. “While other forms of abortion tragically remain legal, one kind—partial-birth abortion—was prohibited by Congress over 20 years ago. As such, my colleagues and I will continue to press for justice in this case until those responsible for obstructing it are held accountable.”
