Associated Builders and Contractors of Iowa’s apprentices competed in their state competition on Friday. Over 40 apprentices participated in the areas of electrical, HVAC, plumbing and sheet metal and the following were the winners:

Residential Electrical
Darren Spicer from Benchmark Electric Inc. in Marion, Iowa

Commercial Electrical
Austin Bixby from Advanced Electrical Services, Inc. in Iowa City, Iowa

Sean Murphy from Dickerson Mechanical, Inc. in Colfax, Iowa

Tyler Long from Professional Plumbing Service, Inc. in Fairfax, Iowa

Apprentices qualified for the state competition earlier this fall through exemplary scores on a written test. Craft Championship competitors placed in the Top 10 of their respective fields’ testing.

“We’re proud of our apprentices for successfully showcasing their training and skills at this year’s Craft Championships,” said Ginny Shindelar, ABC’s vice president of education and training. “Iowa is sending a very talented group to compete at our national competition.”

The first-place winners will travel to Nashville, Tennessee this spring for the National Craft Championships Competition. They were also awarded tools and other prizes.
