Congresswoman Cindy Axne is continuing to support Democrat Andrea Phillips in the Iowa House District 37 race despite the fact Phillips has a statue of a mass murderer in her living room.

Chairman Mao Zedong was responsible for the deaths of millions of people. Yet he has a prominent spot in the living room of Phillips.

And Axne must not care.

“There is a critical special election in Ankeny this Tuesday, Sept. 14. Andrea Phillips is an Ankeny mom who will fight for families at the statehouse. Many people don’t know there’s an election on Sept. 14 and we need to make sure our friends and neighbors get to the polls to vote for Andrea.”

We asked Axne last week if she was comfortable campaigning with and supporting a candidate who has a statue of Chairman Mao in their living room, but her office has not responded.

It appears she is comfortable supporting such a candidate.

Good thing Phillips went with the statue of a guy responsible for the deaths of millions of people rather than a piece of cloth from the confederacy.
