U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South Station arrested a man early Thursday morning who was previously deported and convicted for attempted murder in the United States.
“Our agents are committed to stop all threats that attempt to enter the United States,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “The arrest of this criminal alien is especially significant due to the severity of his crimes within the Del Rio Sector communities.”
On June 20, Border Patrol agents arrested Pedro Tiempo-Garcia, a 45-year-old Mexican national, shortly after he made an illegal entry by crossing the Rio Grande River. During processing, records checks revealed that Tiempo-Garcia was arrested in Rocksprings for murder in 2001, was subsequently convicted of attempted capital murder, and sentenced to 22 years incarceration. He was deported in February 2019 after serving 18 years of his sentence.
Tiempo-Garcia faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – Reentry After Deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
All individuals arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure those with criminal history or gang affiliation are positively identified.
