Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a 29-year-old Ecuadorian national after he entered the country illegally in Nogales, Friday evening.

The previously deported man, Walter Patricio Juela-Pinancela, had a violent criminal history.

During processing, agents conducting record checks discovered an aggravated felony conviction in Queens County, New York of statutory rape in 2016, and registration as a sex offender.

Juela-Pinancela will remain in custody to face prosecution for felony immigration charges.

All persons apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal aliens with criminal histories are positively identified.
