Representative Andy McKean has changed party affiliation according to sources. This is confirmed on the legislative website where McKean is now listed as not having a party declared.

McKean was a strong voice in committee against changing the judicial nominating process and spoke on the floor against the strict scrutiny language in the proposed Second Amendment addition to the Iowa Constitution.

Last year McKean was one of six Republicans to vote against the Heartbeat bill.

The Iowa Standard will try to speak with Rep. McKean later today. McKean represents House District 58. According to the Secretary of State’s Office, there are 6,587 registered Democrats in the district and 5,245 registered Republicans. There are 9,364 registered No Party active voters.

McKean’s departure from the GOP leaves the Republicans with 53 members in the Iowa House.
