On Friday, Representative Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement:

The first thing I did as a Congressman-elect in November 2018 was nominate Jim Jordan for Minority Leader.  I supported him then because he is a friend and strong advocate for the conservative cause – and after serving with him, my support has only grown, and I proudly endorse him for Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Now is a time for unity and I believe Jim can bring us together to finish the job we’ve started.  We must hold the line against a radical Biden agenda that is endangering Americans with crippling inflation, open borders and lawlessness, and a radical cultural ideology undermining our military and dividing the country.

While I understand that some of my colleagues are frustrated over the invocation of the Motion to Vacate last week against Speaker Kevin McCarthy — a move I strongly opposed — the rule should remain.  It is an historic, institutional, and important tool for individual members to exercise their right to represent constituents and not be steamrolled by the establishment.  It was a central issue in our fight in January to end the swamp’s stranglehold on the affairs of representative government — and I cannot in good faith change my position on the rule just because my preferred candidate, Jim Jordan, might be Speaker.  Occasionally, Congress should be consistent.

Let’s select Jim Jordan as our Speaker and get busy doing our job.
