The organization “Drag Queen Story Hour” is changing its name to Drag Story Hour in an effort to “reflect the diverse cast of storytellers” in the group. Along with the new name, the organization is launching a new logo.

“The original name extends beyond the San Francisco roots where we began: with global reach, our storytellers include not only drag queens, but drag kings and many other royal beings,” said Beatrice Thomas aka the Reverend Black Benatar, the president of Drag Story Hour and leader of its San Francisco Bay Area chapter. “We’ve always welcomed a diverse range of approaches to drag, and now that’s more accurately reflected in our name!”
The programming and mission will not change — the group will continue to celebrate reading “through the glamorous art of drag.”
According to a press release from the organization, the change reflects the fact programming is provided not just by drag queens but also drag kings and other drag artists.
“This is a step in the right direction in becoming a truly inclusive organization with an inclusive name,” said Jonathan Hamilt, executive director. “Drag is for everyone and we want that to reflect in our name.”
