Fareway has contacted The Iowa Standard to let us know they did not sponsor any events for Capital City Pride other than the group’s Iowa Cubs game and the group’s “family night” at the Blank Park Zoo.

Capital City Pride has its big weekend this weekend. And some of those events include:

Saturday, June 11: Drag Queen Story Time at noon

Saturday, June 11: Youth Drag Show at 2:45 p.m.

In Capital City Pride’s sponsorship guide, it states that sponsorships support the Speaker Series, Gala & Awards Ceremony, Book Club and Storytellers in addition to June Pride Fest Weekend events.

On page 17 of the guide, it deals specifically with the June 10-12, 2022 Pride Fest Weekend. And the sponsorship packages are rainbow, diamond, platinum, gold, silver or bronze.

Fareway is listed as a “silver sponsor” for Capital City Pride.

However, the company is adamant it is only sponsoring the Iowa Cubs game and the Blank Park Zoo event. It said it is also working on having updates made to the Capital City Pride sponsorship page.

The Iowa Standard has asked Fareway multiple times if it is comfortable sponsoring Capital City Pride events when those events include the Youth Drag Show as well as Drag Queen Story Time.

We have not received a direct response.

Fareway said the Iowa Cubs game and the zoo event are “family-friendly activities” that fit its mission.

We will publish an update if we receive one from Fareway.
