Supporters of Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer were sent a fundraising email from her campaign that had a message from Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“I’ll get right to the point, friends. Without your support today, holding Abby’s seat — and keeping Iowa’s powerful voice in Congress — becomes more difficult,” it starts. “Not to mention a win in Iowa’s First District is key to our path to victory in 2020, and holding on to the Democrat majority in the House.”
The email goes on to say the House Democrats have done “so much amazing work this past year. We passed over 400 bills through the House, dealing with everything from health care to trade.”
On Sunday, her campaign sent out an email from Paul Begala. Begala was an adviser to President Bill Clinton and chief strategist for the 1992 Clinton-Gore campaign.
“I’ve watched her work in Congress, people,” it says. “Abby is exactly the kind of leader Iowa deserves. She acts on principle, not self-interest. She fights for lower health care costs and higher wages.”
Begala acknowledges Finkenauer is running in an “ultra-competitive” seat. He said the DCCC put her on the Frontline Program, a program that supports Democrats in tough re-election bids.
