Earlier this year Rep. Art Staed (D-Cedar Rapids) criticized Republican lawmakers who showed the move “Unplanned” at the Capitol. His criticism prompted a response from Sue Thayer, a former abortion clinic manager.

Now that Unplanned is now available on DVD, Thayer is sending Staed a copy of the movie. She included the following letter:

Dear Representative Staed,

Hopefully this letter finds you well!

You may remember that in early spring, we corresponded about the “Unplanned” movie. I offered to take you and your staff to the theater to see it, but you declined.

It is now out of DVD/Blue Ray and I thought you might be willing to watch it at your own convenience. Enclosed is a copy of the movie, a gift from me to you.

I may have mentioned to you that I was a longtime center manager for Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa, now Planned Parenthood of the North Central States. In this capacity, I have worked many days in abortion units in Iowa and have seen firsthand the dismembered babies. I have also worked with many women who struggle with negative feelings after an abortion.

You said that you didn’t believe Abby Johnson’s story. But as I said, even if all she said is wholly false, the movie still accurately depicts what an abortion is, both surgical and chemical. Iowa offers both these types of abortion as well as webcam abortion, which is a chemical abortion done with no medical personnel on site. Center managers and clinic assistants perform transvaginal ultrasounds, scan the image to a remote physician, who can then push a button on her screen to open a drawer at the remote center. The doctor watches via webcam as the woman takes the first set of pills, Mifeprex. The second set of pills, Misoprostol, are sent home with the woman and she completes her abortion at home.

As I have often said, I believe that all who advocate or legislate for abortion, should spend just one day watching them. This would mean a guaranteed end to the slaughter of unborn children.

Hopefully you will take just two hours to watch this movie to better understand what it is you support. Enclosed is my business card. I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about this.

Thank you and God Bless,

Sue Thayer
