Republican Congressman Steve Stivers expressed support last week for President Joe Biden’s proposed $1,400 stimulus checks, but said only if those who receive the checks first receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

Stivers reportedly told Yahoo Finance Live that it would be an effort to “actually buy something with our $1,400.”

The Iowa Standard reached out to Stivers on Saturday to ask him how his proposal would apply to individuals with religious or medical exemptions to vaccines.

“I dropped the idea,” he said.
