The Iowa Standard was able to be included in Sen. Charles Grassley’s Capitol Hill Report on Tuesday morning. We were able to ask two questions, with one being his initial thoughts on the response he received from the State Department regarding his inquiry into the mishandling of classified information:
“I think the cable TVs yesterday forgot that two years ago I made these inquiries of the State Department,” Grassley said. “I don’t know why it took them two years to get back to me, but I’m satisfied with the answers from this standpoint — if you want to know what the outcome is going to be, I don’t know.
“But it seems to me like there’s a process going forward or maybe already taking place where the 15 or so people who may have violated laws and compromised our national security.”
Grassley went on to say there could be administrative punishments as well as possible prosecution if the violations are violations of the law.
“All of those are hypothetical thoughts going through my mind, but I’m satisfied to make sure processes are in place now to hold people accountable.”
