“If Dems Were in Control” is a feature on The Iowa Standard that examines what bills would potentially become law if Republicans were not running state government.

Today we look at Senate File 13, which was filed by Sen. Joe Bolkcom. The bill states people cannot carry or possess a “dangerous weapon” in places where written notice forbidding such entry has been conspicuously posted.

You would still be allowed to go armed with a dangerous weapon in your own dwelling or place of business, though, so I guess that’s a plus…???

A peace officer is exempt, but only when the officer’s duties require the officer to carry a dangerous weapon.

Members of Armed Forces are are exempt, but only when the weapons are carried in connection with the person’s duties.

And correctional offices are good, as long as the duties require it.

If Dems were in control, the punishment for violating the law would be a simple misdemeanor punishable by confinement for no more than 30 days or a fine of at least $65 but not more than $625. Or, by both.
