Richard Rogers provided an update on some legislation that will be considered Monday regarding the Second Amendment.

In addition, Rogers said Iowans For Gun Safety is holding a meeting with some other groups about 11:45 a.m. in Room 116. At 12:40 p.m. they’ll have a press conference.

“Their big topic will be how to defeat our Constitutional amendment — the freedom amendment,” Rogers said. “Which would add strong protections for the right to keep and bear arms to the Iowa Constitution.

“As you know, Iowa is one of only six states that doesn’t have protections for the right to keep and bear arms in our state Constitution. Anda that’s a club we don’t want to be in. I believe that’s California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Minnesota. Iowa doesn’t need to be in that group.”
