I have recently had conversations with a number of folks in multiple congressional districts who are ardent President Trump supporters and will be voting for Trump in November.  However, they aren’t sure they will be voting for their respective Republican Congressional Representative, because their representative is too rude, doesn’t vote correctly, or is not conservative enough.

Sometimes a simple “So you think the Democrat opponent is going to be better?” gets them to start re-evaluating their idea.  Other times not.

Here is something to think about.  When you don’t vote for the Republican candidate it simply gives the Democrat opponent a one-vote advantage.  With many potentially close elections ahead of us, it doesn’t take very many folks not voting to decide a race.  Remember, in 2020 Republican Congresswoman Miller-Meeks won the election by only six votes out of 393,922 votes cast.

So for those folks who will be voting for Trump but are hesitant about voting for their Republican Congressperson, let’s consider the following three scenarios; the first two are predicated on Trump winning re-election, and the third is on the Democrats winning the trifecta.

If the Democrats win back the House, but lose the Senate, Trump will be largely neutralized:

  1. They will block every bill Trump tries to get through.
  2. They will be holding impeachment hearings on a regular basis and charging Trump with whatever they can create at that time.  During these hearings, the Democrats will smear J.D. Vance as often as they can so that he will be a damaged candidate should he decide to run in 2028.  Whether or not the Republican-controlled Senate would ever convict Trump on those charges is irrelevant to the Democrat plan to smear Trump’s name.
  3. If Trump tries Executive Orders, the Democrats will tie up the agencies involved with hearings and testimony before House Committees with Democrat majorities; the Democrats will impede an Executive Order any way they can.

If the Democrats win the House and keep the Senate it will get much worse:

  1. They will block every bill Trump tries to get through.
  2. The House will impeach Trump, and the Senate Democrats will vote in lockstep to convict Trump.  If they have a 2/3rd majority it will take only once and Trump will be removed from office; the same for J.D. Vance when he replaces Trump.  If the Democrats have only a majority, the media will inundate the American public with the fact that a majority of Democrats have repeatedly voted to convict Trump and will probably call for Trump’s resignation.  It won’t take too many times for this to wear on the American public, and probably some RINOs, and pressure will build for Trump to step down to “end the chaos.”
  3. Both the House and the Senate will do everything possible to stop or impede the implementation of an Executive Order.

If the Democrats win the Presidency and the House, and keep the Senate we will lose our country:

  1. Elections will be federalized.  The act of requiring voter ID will not be allowed in any state.  States will have to mail out unsolicited ballots to every registered voter, and ballot harvesting on a massive scale will be allowed.  There will be little scrutiny of any ballots mailed in, and the time period for receiving such ballots could be extended to days after election day for every state.
  2. There will be a mass amnesty of the millions of illegal aliens already allowed into the United States and they will be put on an expedited pathway to citizenship and become voters.  Our borders will remain open and untold numbers will continue to pour in.  They too shall be put on the pathway to citizenship and voting.  The vast majority of these people will be reliant on government assistance and will vote Democrat because of the handouts the Democrats provide them.  Republicans will not win another major election for decades, if ever.
  3. The U.S. Supreme Court will be packed with liberal judges.
  • Decisions by these judges will make the 2nd Amendment meaningless, and mandatory gun “buy backs” of certain types of guns will take place.  Carrying a weapon in public, open or concealed, will become illegal.
  • Freedom of speech would be restricted.  That path is already being laid: Harris’ running mate Tim Walz said, “There’s no guarantee to free speech on misinformation or hate speech, and especially around our democracy.”  Hillary Clinton brought up the idea of indicting Americans for trying to influence American elections by using “propaganda,” leaving the definition of propaganda wide open.  Who decides what is misinformation, hate speech or propaganda?  A Supreme Court stacked with liberal judges would be happy to decide.

4. Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico will be admitted as new states, resulting in, among other things, four more Democrat Senators added to the U.S. Senate.

5. The Democrats in the Senate would eliminate the filibuster and ensure that all business would be conducted by a simple majority vote, leaving the Republicans helpless to stop the Democrats.

As you can see, this is truly the most consequential election in our lifetime.  So for those folks I have talked with, and for folks with similar feelings, I have a question: Is your Republican Congressperson so rude, so wrong in their voting, or so liberal that you want to invite one of the scenarios above?

For the sake of our great country, your kids, grandkids and future generations, vote, and vote for President Trump and every other Republican on the ballot.  And don’t wait until Election Day, November 5th.  Early voting here in Iowa starts on October 16th, so go to your Auditor’s office and vote before November 5th.  That way, on Election Day you won’t have to worry about the weather, illness or an unexpected problem.  You will have already voted for President Trump and every other Republican on the ballot.

  1. Dear Mr. Kirby,
I have learned a lot about our political system since 2020. I have watched closely how my congressperson has voted on legislation since then. How many times they voted for and with the democrats. I was told if I don’t like them just vote them out. With the political machine the way it is they are my only choice to vote for. I went and voted in the primary for the first time in my life, my fault. So to get them out of office what else can I do except withhold my vote for them? With their voting record how do you know that they will support and vote for Trump policies? Again I ask with their voting record, what is the difference between them and a democrat? This feels like an Omnibus spending bill in the House on Christmas Eve!

  2. I am voting for Pres Trump and leaving the section of my ballot for selecting my House of Representative candidate blank.

The reason is simple. I want a Republican to represent me in congress. Congresswoman Miller-Meeks isn’t a Republican. Actions speak louder than words. Her voting record is dismal. Plain and simple. She can pontificate about Conservatism and Republican Party values until she is blue in the face. None of that will change how she has voted in the past.

The list is long. Her yes votes on spending alone are more than enough for any sane person to realize she isn’t representing the people of Iowa’s 1st district. I can’t say who she is representing and she certainly won’t tell, but I can say it isn’t us.

The only thing conservative about her are her speeches…. Where she doesn’t take questions and quickly departs. There is nothing out there to credibly suggest she will change this time around.

I constantly find myself asking the question: With Republicans like her, who needs Democrats? I am tired of voting for the least worst candidate. So this time around, I won’t.

  3. Zach Nunn and Miller-Meeks are not doing the will of the people. Because of their abortion stances, no exceptions, I find that just plain awful. I’m well past the abortion age but I remember talk about the hangers to abortion, back alley abortions and worse. Many died. Exceptions to abortions are necessary. Unfortunately you are correct about Trump needing the house and Senate so I will vote straight republican. However, our state legislature needs to Trump Nunn and Miller-Meeks and do the will of the people on this issue.

  4. A few points in response while applauding your intention to vote straight Republican. More women are injured or die from legal abortion than ever did from illegal abortion. The back alley practitioners just moved to the front street and increased their outreach harming more woman. Chemical abortions are fraught with complications. The state of the medical art is such that abortion “to save the life of the mother is either non-existent of extremely rare. Both mother and child can live and prosper But every successful elective abortion means a dead baby and at least morally injured participants. There is no law on the books in the United States that does not allow doctors to treat incomplete abortions induced or spontaneous (miscarriage). No abortion regulatory bill in the US is more dangerous or death dealing than wide-open abortion on demand. Iowa law has exceptions for rape, incest (crimes of the father) fetal deformity incompatible with life and life of the mother. All together quite rare but the exceptions that upend support for abortion in polling when outfits like the Des Moines Register ask questions like ‘should abortion be illegal” without listing the common exceptions.

  5. The way our legislative system is set up the party with the majority sets the agenda. If we do not have a Republican House and Senate Trump initiatives are dead in the water. All your /our concerns about the border, the economy, culture, military readiness will be aggravated. Of course when we vote republican we are voting for the imperfect even apostates. That includes Donald Trump. We always vote for the lesser of evils because that is the human condition.Ive never seen a pure or non-compromised or never compromising candidate. And by very recent platform standards and many or most state platform standards today Trump is more than a bit of a RINO and not in a necessarily good way. And where were the vaunted Trump voters, the core of the party, the ones that define Republican as Trump when it came to voting in the 2024 primary? Miller-Meeks had a credible and very pro-Trump challenger yet MMM won still handily against her primary opponent David Pautsch. When they don’t vote all the races Republican Trumpistas have no-one to blame but themselves for deadlock, lack of action..

  6. Congressman Jim Jordan and Mike Huckabee have announced they are supporting Miller-Meeks. They both know it is better for Trump’s agenda to have a Republican controlled House. For those who are withholding a vote for Miller-Meeks, as I pointed out in my article, a Democrat controlled House will wreck the Trump agenda and create havoc for Trump himself. Jordan and Huckabee are looking at the big picture. If you don’t vote for Miller-Meeks you are simply inviting a Democrat controlled House that will be a disaster for Trump and for our country. If it comes down to it, find someone to challenge her in the 2026 primary. But for now join Jordan and Huckabee in looking at the big picture and cast your vote for Miller-Meeks.

  7. “Remember, in 2020 Republican Congresswoman Miller-Meeks won the election by only six votes out of 393,922 votes cast.” The problem is she is not Republican, at least, not an Iowa Republican. Iowa Republicans support and promote the Iowa Republican Party Platform. I encourage every Iowan to vote his conscience. My conscience tells me Miller-Meeks does more damage to our government every term and I can’t support that House majority/minority respected. I will trust God to flip seats elsewhere and in the next election we might be able to vote for a real Iowa Republican. “Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” John Quincy Adams
