A major magazine is including a biological man on its list of the hottest women of 2023. Popular men’s magazine Maxim Australia just published its list of 2023’s 100 “hottest” women. Actress Margot Robbie topped the list for the second year in a row and the fourth time overall; other winners included actresses Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett, and Elizabeth Debicki, athletes Sam Kerr, Kaylee McKeown, and Ariarne Titmus, and singers Kylie Minogue and Georgia Clare Flipo (better known as G Flip). Alongside these winners, Maxim Australia listed Dani Laidley, a biological male who identifies as transgender. Born as Dean James, Laidley was an Australian football player and coach. His inclusion on the list has garnered criticism from conservatives.

Melissa Mackenzie, a mother and an author and the publisher of The American Spectator, commented to The Washington Stand, “It is an affront to women that men growing out their hair and slapping on lipstick makes them think that they’re women or in any way understand a woman’s ‘lived experience’ — to borrow a leftist favorite phrase. It’s even more insulting that editors at a men’s magazine like Maxim Australia would list the most beautiful women and include a hideously ugly man on it. Men are not women. Ugliness is not beauty. Words mean things and the hateful editors of Maxim know it.”

Former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines posted side-by-side photos on Twitter showing Laidley before and after transitioning genders, with the caption, “#92 of top 100 hottest ‘women’ in the world according to Maxim magazine in Australia … How did we get to a point where companies/institutions/publications can do this with no fear of backlash?” Former Fox News star Megyn Kelly simply quipped, “We ran out of women?”

Maxim Australia’s editor-in-chief Santi Pintado said the magazine’s “Maxim Hot 100” is a “definitive list of Australian women who have impressed, made headlines or simply had a huge year.” He added, “The past 12 months saw an abundance of fine and fierce femmes who have wowed us with their aptitude, intellect, humour, attributes and overall incredible talents.”
