On Tuesday, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum signed HB 1249 and HB 1489, prohibiting biological males from participating in female athletics at the K-12 and collegiate levels, respectively. North Dakota is now the 21st state to protect the integrity of women’s sports in law.
The signing comes less than a week after the Biden administration announced a proposed change to Title IX regulations that would hamstring schools’ abilities to limit participation in girls’ sports to girls.
In response, Terry Schilling, president of American Principles Project (APP), released the following statement:
“Biology matters. Despite the relentless propaganda pushed by gender ideologues, this simple truth cannot be eliminated — male and female are realities rooted in biology, and no amount of drugs or surgeries will ever allow a person to change his or her sex.
“When Title IX was first enacted, all Americans understood this. Even today, the vast majority of people recognize that men and women are different and that to preserve fairness in athletics, women and girls should be allowed to compete separately. However, while the Biden administration last week paid lip service to the obvious, its newly announced Title IX rule would still punish states and schools for attempting to protect all female athletes. This outrageous assault cannot be allowed to stand.
“Fortunately, states are continuing to press ahead to defend the integrity of girls’ sports. We applaud North Dakota lawmakers for taking a stand for their states’ girls, and we thank Gov. Burgum for signing the bills, a laudable shift from his veto of similar legislation two years ago. More and more leaders are joining the movement to acknowledge biological reality in law, and despite the attempts of woke leftists like Joe Biden and his allies to thwart these efforts, theirs is a losing battle. Reality always wins.”
