Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has been conducting Operation Lone Star, which is a multi-state agency effort. Texas has transported more than 6,800 illegal immigrants to Washington D.C. since April and more than 360 to New York City.
“The busing mission is providing much-needed relief to our overwhelmed border communities,” according to a release from Abbott’s office last week.
NYC Mayor Adams said it is “cruel” that Abbott is sending illegal immigrants to his city.
“It is unimaginable what the governor of Texas has done, when you think about this country, a country that has always been open to those who were fleeing persecution,” Adams said. “We’ve always welcomed them. And this governor is not doing that in Texas.”
New York City has called itself a sanctuary city, but Adams is concerned about the influx of the illegal immigrants.
When running, Adams vowed to protect illegal immigrants from deportation. Every candidate doubled down on former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s policies.
