Conservative Congressman Chip Roy has filed a bill that would require proof of citizenship for anyone registering to vote in federal elections. The bill would amend the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of U.S. citizenship to register an individual to vote in elections for federal office.

There are 52 cosponsors on the legislation, including Congressperson Randy Feenstra. Feenstra is the only member of the Iowa delegation listed as a cosponsor. New York has four members listed as cosponsors. Illinois has two.

The bill is H.R. 22.
