Republican State Rep. Jeff Shipley filed House File 187 late last week. The bill removes the requirement from human growth and development curriculum to include information regarding the availability of a vaccine to prevent HPV.

Currently state law requires human growth and development or health curriculum be provided to students in school districts, accredited nonpublic schools and charter schools to be both research-based and age-appropriate. It requires the curriculum include information regarding the availability of the HPV vaccine.

Nobody has registered in support of the bill.

The following groups are registered against the legislation:

Blank Children’s Hospital
Family Planning Council of Iowa
Iowa State Education Association
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Iowa
Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence
One Iowa
Iowa Mental Health Advocacy
