Recently we just saw drama on T.V. play out with the, first ever, vote of no confidence for the Speaker of the U.S. House.  It is just another demonstration of the inability of Congress, or anything in Washington D.C. to function properly.  This one incident is just one more symptom of an overall problem happening in Washington D.C.  Our Constitution has a way, built into it, to fight this issue.

The United States Constitution is a remarkable document. Article V of the Constitution provides two ways to amend the Constitution: through Congress or through a convention of states.

I believe that an Article V convention of states is the only way to stop the inability of Washington, D.C. to function, the encroachment of D.C. on our states, and the out-of-control budget. It is also the only way to bring balance back to our great country.

Washington, D.C. has become increasingly dysfunctional in recent years. They cannot even do basic things like passing a budget. This gridlock has led to several problems, including a rising national debt and a decline in our infrastructure because of the funding of special interests.

The federal government has also been encroaching on the powers of the states. This is a dangerous trend, as it undermines the principle of federalism. The states should be free to experiment with different policies and find what works best for their citizens.

Finally, the federal budget is out of control. The government spends more money than it takes in, and the national debt is growing at an alarming rate. This is unsustainable, and it is leading to higher taxes and inflation.

I believe that an Article V convention of states is the only way to address these problems. A convention would allow the states to come together and propose amendments to the Constitution that would limit the power of the federal government, balance the budget, and restore the principle of federalism.

Of course, some say there are risks associated with an Article V convention. They say there is a possibility that the convention could propose amendments that would weaken the Constitution or harm our country. However, I believe that the risks are worth taking. The status quo is unacceptable, and we need to take action to fix our government.

I urge all Iowans to learn more about the Article V convention of states and to support this effort to restore our constitutional republic.

Here are some specific thoughts on how an Article V convention of states could help to address the problems:

  • A convention could propose amendments that would limit the size and scope of the federal government, making it more efficient and effective.
  • A convention could propose amendments that would restore the balance of power between the federal government and the states.
  • A convention could propose amendments that would balance the federal budget and limit the government’s ability to borrow money.

An Article V convention of states could help to bring balance back to our country by restoring the principles of limited government, federalism, and individual liberty. It could also help to reduce polarization and division in our country.  The status quo is unacceptable, and we need to take action to fix our government.

I urge all Iowans to learn more about the Article V convention of states and to support this effort to restore our constitutional republic.

  1. Fantastic message Rep Wills. We must somehow generate a movement to make this happen. It’s the only answer to America’s problems
