It could be the most tone-deaf fundraising email of 2020.
And there have been a few.
But on Thursday morning, the Republican Party of Iowa sent out a fundraising email on behalf of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Just two days ago it was McConnell who took to the floor of the U.S. Senate to congratulate Joe Biden on his “victory” and to say that all Americans can be proud of our first female vice president-elect in Kamala Harris.
Just yesterday, according to Politico, McConnell warned Republicans in the U.S. Senate not to object to the election results on Jan. 6.
According to Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, his warning yielded zero pushback.
Prior to publishing this piece, The Iowa Standard asked its readers for their thoughts on McConnell in one sentence.
“Traitor,” said Keri.
Traitor was echoed by Brenda, Richard, Scott, Cindy, Karen and Vicki as well.
“RINO who bends to the whim of whoever is in charge in order to serve his own self-interest,” said Lindsay.
Yesterday, when we published the story about McConnell congratulating Biden and Harris, the responses were equally critical.
Stephen responded with two words: “Swamp rat.”
Tammy said “turncoat!”
Bryan pointed out that McConnell is all for “China Joe,” noting that McConnel’s wife has a father who is China’s biggest ship builder and a sister who works for the Bank of China.
Yet today, at 10:31 a.m., the fundraising email from the Republican Party of Iowa came through.
“Since he became Majority Leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell has done nothing but win for Republicans,” it reads.
“No one but President Trump has won more for Republicans than Sen. Mitch McConnell. And now, with the Georgia runoff elections looming, he needs you on his team now more than ever.
“No matter what the Left throws at him, Sen. Mitch McConnell just keeps on winning — because he has people like you on his team.”
Gag. Vomit. Puke.
Pick the reaction.
McConnell needs “us” on “his team?” Really?
Is McConnell on our team? Is McConnell fighting for us and for President Donald J. Trump?
And to see this fundraising email just hours after McConnell congratulated Biden on a likely fraudulent election and told GOP Senators to stand down when it comes to challenging the election results is a total slap in the fact to the grassroots conservative Republicans who support the Republican Party of Iowa.
