Name: Matthew Rinker, Republican
Office/District: State Senate District 44
Hometown: Burlington
Profession: Insurance / Real estate
Why running for office: “I’ve been serving as a Burlington city councilman for the last three years. I consider myself to be a problem solver. I enjoy working on issues and coming up with solutions. I consider myself to be fairly well informed. So, I decided the next step in trying to help people and improve people’s lives is to run for this state office.
“As far as issues go, there’s a really long list. I can’t say that there’s anyone particular thing that drives me or motivates me outside of just making sure that I’m trying to improve Iowa for Iowans and, depending on who you talk to, you get a different answer as to what’s important. So, really my campaign is about trying to figure out what is important to people and trying to understand the perspectives that they have through the lens that they wear so that we can have information and take it all into consideration when those things are brought up.”
