Iowa Federation of Republican Women President Barbara Hames-Bryant said today, “Every voter in America should be outraged by any attempt by politicians in Washington, D.C., to overturn a state’s certified election.”

Yet, Hames-Bryant explained, Iowa voters find exactly that happening today in the United States House of Representatives as Democrats attempt to unseat Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who was duly elected in the general election more than four months ago by Iowans in the Second House District.

Since the ballots were initially tallied in November 2020, the votes have been recounted and certified, and Congresswoman Miller-Meeks has been sworn in and serving her district since January. Miller-Meeks’ opponent in last year’s election, Rita Hart, did not like the results, nor the recount, and rather than take her case through the proper channel – the Iowa courts – she skipped over the judicial system and went straight to her liberal friends in Washington, D.C., to petition Congress.

“It is insulting to the people of Iowa that Ms. Hart’s petition is even being considered in Congress,” said Hames-Bryant. “All Americans should be outraged and fearful for the future integrity of our electoral process, if a certified election can be overturned in a political power grab. The Democrats, by ignoring the voters’ legitimate choice, are crumbling the foundations of our democracy.”

Miller-Meeks said, “I appreciate the support of the IowaFRW and all Iowans in standing up for the integrity of Iowa’s election system. We need to make it clear that it is a dangerous and slippery slope for a handful of partisan members of Congress to start overturning state-certified election results.”

Hames-Bryant encourages all Americans who believe in states’ rights to hold their own free and fair elections, to call the Democrat members of the House Administration Committee, which will issue a report on who won the contest. The committee is composed of nine members, six of whom are Democrats. Show support for Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Iowa’s constitutional right to determine its own elections by calling the Democrat members of the House Administration Committee, along with Iowa’s only Democrat member of Congress, Rep. Cindy Axne, and tell them to seat Rep. Miller-Meeks as a full member of Congress.
