President Trump is protecting American workers as the nation combats the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this week, President Trump announced that he is temporarily suspending immigration to ensure American workers are first in line for jobs once the country starts to reopen. This immigration pause will last 60 days.

A recent USA Today/Ipos poll shows nearly 80% of Americans favor restricting immigration during this coronavirus pandemic.

Even Democrats have previously acknowledged mass migration harms American workers:

  • In 2006, then-Senator Barack Obama warned mass migration, “threatens to depress further the wages of blue-collar Americans and put strains on an already overburdened safety net.”
  • In 2015, Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders stated, “You think we should open the borders and bring in a lot of low-wage workers, or do you think maybe we should try to get jobs for those [American] kids?”

BOTTOM LINE: President Trump and his Administration are working tirelessly to protect the health and wellbeing of the American people during this pandemic. By temporarily halting immigration, President Trump is putting the American worker first.
