Week 2 of the 2024 Iowa legislative session is history, and we drove through another snowstorm on our way home.  Fortunately, the cold, wintry weather pattern is finally breaking and the coming week will feel downright balmy at 32 degrees!

This week brought many veteran support groups to the capitol, and I was honored to hear from many leaders, including Governor Kim Reynolds, Adjutant General Stephen Osborn and Iowa Veterans Home Commandant Todd Jacobus.

The issue commanding the most attention at the capitol this week was the governor’s proposal to reform the AEA system in Iowa.  As a fairly new legislator, I admit I have had to research the Area Education Agency system to better understand what it does, the stated reasons for the initiative, and the process and timeframe going forward.

Already this week there has been a healthy debate among the Education Committee members of both chambers, the governor and other partners, with amendments forthcoming to the bill.  The amended bill continues to add state accountability to the AEA while preserving all existing funding but giving the local school discretion on how and where to best use the resources – and utilize the AEA with no changes if that is most appropriate.

I will continue to monitor the bill’s progress and participate in the discussion as the legislative process runs its course over the coming weeks – but I am confident that our students are the primary concern in the proposal and am optimistic that Iowa common sense will again prevail.

Speaking of Iowa’s common sense and our ability to manage our own state without federal (or California’s) interference – I continue to advocate for the concept of an Iowa currency backed by gold/silver.  With a national debt of $34 TRILLION, and growing exponentially, both parties seem to recognize the fact our national government is utterly unaccountable and unconstitutional.

The ability to simply print more money and create more debt, via a fiat dollar, is certainly not what our founding fathers intended, and Article 1, Section 10 of the US Constitution defines what they believe money was – gold and silver.   The massive growth of the federal government and associated inflation, since we left the gold standard in 1971, is insidious and destructive.

I have been studying the writings of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and am confident our founding fathers would not recognize the nation in its present state, which is named the United States of America for a reason.  As a nation we have lost the focus on individual inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (understood to be possessions or property), that they intended under federalist principles.

There are legitimate arguments for leaving the gold standard, and I don’t discount them.  But these arguments are like action figures in a movie, they are assumed to have pure motives, and fail to acknowledge what is so readily visible today – the “experts” managing our currency have failed and are no longer constrained by law, by conviction or even by common sense.

It is apparent to me that the current administration and the ever present “deep state” have far more allegiance to the World Economic Forum and other globalist organizations than to our Constitution or the American people.  They have been advancing socialism abroad and at home for many years, so evident throughout our culture, economy and healthcare (which is hideously expensive while health outcomes are declining).  [Don’t get me started on the recent man-made “pandemic”].

All of this sounds national or global in nature, and it is easier to simply focus on local issues we can directly control.  Unfortunately we no longer have the luxury of ignoring the peril our feckless “leaders” are plunging our nation into – literally our freedom and our way of life are at stake.

I ran for state office, in the wonderful state of Iowa, because more than ever I believe only state government has the Constitutional authority to resist the federal tyranny we are experiencing – and a transactional gold-based state currency is a critical alternative that is within our control.  The beauty of this currency solution is that it empowers every Iowan, regardless of economic status, to own and use a tangible asset like a land or business owner.

There are several states that are pursuing the same strategy of a state gold backed currency, see https://transactionalgold.com/states.html for details.  I believe it is past time to return to sound money as a foundation towards future freedom and prosperity.

Thank you for sending me to Des Moines to represent Senate District #7 at our state capitol.
