United States Sen. Mike Lee took to Twitter on Sunday night to expose the many flaws he sees in the border compromise proposed in the Senate.

First, Lee said no “self-respecting senator” should even agree to vote on the 370-page bill this week.

“Any 41 senators can prevent the bill from proceeding,” Lee wrote.

Lee highlighted the new border emergency authority is limited to just 180 days after the first two years.

“It feels a bit like saying ‘We’re going to make them enforce the border when it gets really bad, but only for six months out of the year, regardless of how bad it gets,” he said.

The Secretary of Homeland Security has discretion for the border emergency authority, which Lee called “asinine.”

“(Mayorkas) is currently being impeached for failing to actually enforce existing law,” he said.

Lee also pointed out that in FY23 the U.S. Marine Corps budget was $53.8 billion. The border deal gives Ukraine more than $60 billion.

Under the proposal, someone deported twice within a year cannot come back to America for an entire year.

“Really? On the THIRD unlawful entry attempt in a year, the only penalty is to be told you can’t come back for a year,” he said.

Here are some details Lee shared on the Ukraine funding:

Lee expressed concern that the Office of Refugee Resettlement gets a new pot of $2.3 billion after it has lost thousands of children.

The bill also implies a “continual, multi-year engagement in Ukraine,” Lee wrote.

“Show me the provisions — or even one provision — that will make this crisis better and not worse,” Lee said. “Show me what in this bill will stop the surges at the border. I haven’t found one yet.”

Based on his reading of the bill, Lee added it appears the Biden Asylum Rule is being codified.

“You don’t even have to go before an immigration judge to be granted asylum,” he said.

Ultimately, Lee said the bill is “worse than bad negotiation, it’s betrayal.”

“Senate GOP leadership screwed this up — and screwed us,” he said. “Even while refusing to let us see the bill they claimed to be negotiating on our behalf — for months — they were never in doubt, insisting we’d be dumb and even unpatriotic NOT to support it. This is a disqualifying betrayal.”
