U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. today pressed Rostin Behnam, Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission about cryptocurrency and the recent FTX collapse. While you may click HERE or on the image below to watch Senator Marshall at the hearing, he said in part,

“Two weeks ago a nuclear bomb went off in the financial world. We know with nuclear physics, there can be good and there can be bad from it… As we think about the uses of digital currency, we all understand there is an upside to it but there is definitely a downside to it… 90% of the dark web drug sales are done with cryptocurrency. Would you agree with me that cryptocurrency is a threat to our national security?

Chairman Behname responded saying, “Potentially it is a threat to our national security.”

Senator Marshall continued,

“Potentially? We have 200 Americans dying every day from fentanyl poisoning – I assume the money laundering is going on with crypto. Human trafficking – I don’t think it is theoretical, I think it is happening every day.”
