Early voting has already begun! The process to elect our national, state, county, and even township leaders has been started! It’s time to get informed if you are not already and make your plan to vote!

What’s on the Ballot?

Here are your choices:  The contrast couldn’t be more clear!

An uncontrolled, unsecure border or a controlled, secure border

Allowing illegals taxpayer benefits and the right to vote or preserving taxpayer benefits and the right to vote for American citizens

Tax policy that discourages business or tax policy that encourages business

Dependence on foreign nations for energy or energy independence

More of the Green New Deal or ditching the Green New Deal

Weak national defense or a strong national defense

Foreign policy where America is disrespected or foreign policy where America is respected

Judges who disregard the Constitution or judges who respect the Constitution

Politicization of the justice system where political enemies are harassed and/or unfairly criminally charged and sentenced OR a move towards a legal system that dispenses true justice where there is equality before the law and the punishment actually fits the crime

Expansion of death for the unborn or a chance that the unborn will be protected even to some degree

More violations by government of citizens’ 1st Amendment rights of religious liberty and free speech OR more protection of citizens’ 1st Amendment rights of religious liberty and free speech

More threats against 2nd Amendment rights or protection of 2nd Amendment rights

Education that promotes CRT/DEI and LGBT ideology and infringes on parents’ rights in raising their children OR education that teaches the fundamental subjects of math, reading, writing, true and balanced history infused with an appreciation for America and our founding principles, and the basics of science and not highly debatable climate change ideas

More attacks on parental rights or protection for parental rights

More strife and division from promotion of CRT/DEI or equality before the law and merit-based decision-making

Policies that elevate the desires of adults over the needs and well-being of children OR policies that do better to promote strong families and protect the traditional family and protect the needs and well-being of children

More damaged children from chemical and surgical castration, sterilization, and mutilation of healthy body parts OR protection for emotionally distressed and vulnerable children against those who would prey on them

More boys and men playing girls’ and women’s sports and beating them out OR more protection for girls and women to have the opportunity to compete on a level playing field

Promotion of the use of ESG or discouragement of the use of ESG

Implementation of CBDC’s and government control over citizens or

prohibition of CBDC’s and freedom for citizens

Support for the WHO treaty and international control over health care or maintaining national and state sovereignty over health care

More sluggish support for Israel or a strong and aggressive support for Israel’s right to defend herself from her enemies

It’s really no contest when you see the stark differences between the 2 presidential candidates and between the 2 parties, which affects everyone else down-ballot. President Trump and the Republicans are way better on every one of these issues than their opponents. And even though the national Republican platform was weakened on the pro-life and family issues, we would stand a better chance of having progress on those issues with President Trump and the Republicans than we would with any of their opponents. For all those reasons, I am supporting President Trump and the Republicans in the November election and would encourage everyone else to join me.

“Staying home” is not an option! Too many of us have done that and it has hurt us and enabled many bad things to happen. We are privileged to live in America where we have a voice, but we have to use it.

As I have said before, gone are the days when we could stay in the bubble of our wonderful life with our family and friends and whatever else we enjoy doing. Our enemies of totalitarianism, socialism, and anti-Constitutionalism are at war with us whether we realize it or not! We must wake up, get engaged, take a stand, and fight!

Two Constitutional Amendments

Summary provided by April Melton of Waterloo. There will be two proposed amendments to the Iowa Constitution on the ballot in Iowa on November 5th, 2024.

The summaries of the amendments will appear on the ballot as follows:

Constitutional Amendment Proposal 1

Summary: Provides for only U.S. citizens aged 18 or older and meeting state and county residency requirements to vote in all elections.  Further provides that 17-year-olds who will be 18 years old by the General Election are eligible to vote in the primary election, subject to the same citizenship and residency requirements.

The exact wording of this amendment will not appear on the ballot, but is as follows:

Full Text: Section 1 of Article II of the Constitution of the State of Iowa, as amended by the amendment of 1970, is repealed and the following adopted in lieu thereof:

Section 1. Electors. Only a citizen of the United States of the age of eighteen years, who shall have been a resident of this state for such period of time as shall be provided by law and of the county in which the citizen claims the citizen’s vote for such period of time as shall be provided by law, shall be entitled to vote at all elections which are authorized by law. However, for purposes of a primary election, a United States citizen must be at least eighteen years of age as of the next general election following the primary election. The required periods of residence shall not exceed six months in this state and sixty days in the county.

Constitutional Amendment Proposal 2

Summary: Provides that the lieutenant governor will act as the governor if there is a temporary disability of the governor.  Further provides that the lieutenant governor or lieutenant governor-elect will be the governor or governor-elect in the case of the resignation, death, or permanent disability of the governor or governor-elect thus creating a vacancy in the office of lieutenant governor or lieutenant governor-elect, as appropriate.

The exact wording of this amendment will not appear on the ballot, but is as follows:

Full Text: Section 17 of Article IV of the Constitution of the State of Iowa is repealed and the following adopted in lieu thereof:

Sec. 17. Lieutenant governor or lieutenant governor-elect to become or act as governor or governor-elect. If there is a temporary disability of the governor, the lieutenant governor shall act as governor until the disability is removed, or the governor dies, resigns, or is removed from office. In case of the death, resignation, or removal from office of the governor, the lieutenant governor shall become governor for the remainder of the term, which shall create a vacancy in the office of lieutenant governor. This section shall also apply, as appropriate, to the governor-elect and the lieutenant governor-elect.

A YES vote on the amendments will add them to the Iowa Constitution and a NO vote on the amendments will cause them to fail and they will NOT be added to the Iowa Constitution.

These amendments, which I have supported, have been debated in the legislature and have passed 2 successive general assemblies (the 89th and the 90th) as required by law. Now they must go before a vote of the people to be added to the Iowa Constitution.

Judges on Your Ballot

Each election I am always asked about the judges that will be on the ballot. Citizens want to know how to find out information about them to help them decide how to vote on the judges. The Iowa Right to Life and the Pulse Life Advocates have put together an excellent document that is succinct, concise, and easy to follow giving great information about the judges that will be up for retention on our ballot.  You can find it at:  https://pulseforlife.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/voter-guide.pdf
