At an event on January 27th, 2024, in Minneapolis, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) was recorded making some deeply troubling remarks. She was speaking in Somali and multiple English translations that have been circulated raise serious concerns regarding her national allegiance.

As a sitting U.S. Congresswoman and national leader in the Democratic party, Rep. Omar’s comments appear to demonstrate that she is committed to advancing the interests of a different country. Some translations claim she praised those who are “Somalians first, Muslims second” with no mention of American allegiance, and that she noted to the crowd that they can sleep comfortably because she is looking after the interests of Somalia in U.S. Congress. While there is some controversy over exactly what was said, all translations appear to confirm an allegiance and commitment to advancing the interests of a foreign nation.

The translations of the statements made by a sitting member of our U.S. Congress should raise concern. The U.S. House Ethics Committee should launch an investigation to determine exactly what was said and meant by Rep. Omar. American citizens should have full confidence that their elected members are faithfully representing their interests and the interest of the United States, not the interests of a foreign power.

To U.S. House Ethics Committee Chair, Rep. Michael Guest:

Our nation’s oath of office is taken by newly-elected members of Congress. The oath takers swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic” and to “bear true faith and allegiance to the same.”

At an event on January 27th, 2024, in Minneapolis, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) was recorded making some deeply troubling remarks. While she was speaking in Somali and differing English translations have circulated, there is now a serious question about her intentions in office, and her national allegiance.

Congress. The translations of the statements made by a sitting member of our U.S. Congress should raise concern. The Ethics Committee should launch an investigation to determine exactly what was said and meant by Rep. Omar. American citizens should have full confidence that their elected members are faithfully representing their interests and the interests of the United States, not the interests of a foreign power. Anyone who takes the U.S. Oath of Office should be an American first.

Furthermore, this incident is yet another reminder as to why it is imperative that elected leaders in Washington, D.C. make every effort to secure our southern border. Our country cannot afford for those who wish to subvert America to pour into our land unchecked.

We support the call asking the U.S. House Ethics Committee to investigate the comments made by Rep. Ilhan Omar in order to protect the integrity of our government, to safeguard the interests of the American people, and to hold our elected officials to their Oath of Office. Americans need leaders who put the interest of this country, the United States of America, ahead of other national interests and who are committed to protecting this nation.
