Iowa was the quickest state in the nation to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new WalletHub survey released today. Iowa ranked first with a score of 75 out of 100. The survey compares all 50 states plus the District of Columbia in three categories: COVID-19 health, leisure and travel, and the economy and labor market.
Other key findings of the study find that:
- Iowa is one of only 8 states where no hospitals had supply shortages in the past week
- Iowa has had the lowest shares of COVID-19 related doctor visits in the past week
- Iowa is one of only three states that had an increase in small-business related work hours compared to pre-COVID-19 levels

“Here in Iowa, it’s not surprising that our state leads the nation in economic recovery from COVID. Gov. Reynolds consistently made logical decisions, balancing Iowan’s health and well being with the needs of small business owners to operate and keep their employees on staff. That is a recipe for a quick recovery. In addition, the Iowa legislature did their part by keeping a balanced budget, passing critical liability protections to shield small business owners from frivolous COVID-19 lawsuits, and cut taxes for our hard working and hard-hit small businesses. Iowans should be proud that we are the fastest state to recover from this devastating pandemic.”
