Republican State Rep. Brad Sherman led a prayer over former President Donald J. Trump before he spoke Saturday in Cedar Rapids. Sherman, who is also a pastor, was the lead sponsor of the Religious Liberty and State Sovereignty bill as well as the Marriage Amendment bill this past legislative session.

“Gates of hell will not prevail against him,” Sherman can be heard praying.

Sherman prayed for protection over Trump, his family and that the weapons formed against him will not prosper but rather come to nothing.

“The people that laid the traps, they will be caught in their own traps,” Sherman prayed. “So Father, we thank you now for great favor and I pray Lord that President Trump trust in you, lean not on his understandings, acknowledge you in all his ways, and I trust you Lord that You will direct his paths. And Lord, that there is a great victory not only for this nation but for the world because the calling that you’ve placed on this man.”

Video of the prayer has received more than 1.2 million views already on Twitter.

Trump also appeared in Ankeny on Saturday.
