On Thursday the United States extended the public health emergency status for the COVID pandemic, despite the fact that weeks ago President Joe Biden declared the pandemic was “over.”

The decision extends the order until at least Jan. 11, 2023. Health officials are cautioning about a potential winter surge of the virus.

The first public health emergency was declared in January of 2020. It has been renewed every 90 days since.
