***Update: In a statement to The Iowa Standard, the district said the quote published in this article is “inaccurate based on the conversations with staff and students present,” and described the discussion as one about differing personal experiences among students. The district did not provide specific clarification on what was said.***

Multiple parents have reached out to The Iowa Standard upset with Waukee Northwest High School principal Dr. Fairouz Bishara-Rantisi. Parents have said that Bishara-Rantisi denied requests from students on the student council to have a USA theme day for Homecoming week.

According to one parent, when it was suggested there be a USA day during the week, Bishara-Rantisi said “of course the white girl would suggest a USA day.”

Bishara-Rantisi said the school would not be doing a USA theme day.

The Iowa Standard emailed and called the principal to ask about the dress-up days and let her know what parents have said about the USA day. She has not responded.

We will update the story if we hear back from Bishara-Rantisi.
