Parents in the Western Dubuque Community School District are taking a stand against forced masking. According to the website masksoffmykids.com, beginning on Tuesday, May 11, the masks are coming off for good.

“Starting on Tuesday, May 11 and EVERY DAY thereafter we’re sending our kids to school without masks,” the website states. “If they send our kids home, so be it and we’ll do it again the next day. If they give our kids detention for not masking, we pick them up when schools is out – NO DETENTION!”

Parents are encouraged to send a new medical exemption form with their child to school every day.

There is a petition being sent to the Western Dubuque Community School District demanding mask requirements within the district become voluntary effective on May 11.

“We as parents have the right to choose what is best for our own children,” the petition states. “We understand the current guidelines and mandates within the school district and the county that are in place and accept personal responsibility for our actions to defy said mandates.

“If this action will not be taken, we may be forced to find a school district that does have voluntary mask requirements and we are hereby requesting your permission for open enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year.”
