As the Iowa legislature considers allowing parental choice in education through Education Savings Accounts, the need for school choice has never been greater.

Enter Waterloo West High School government teacher Jonathan Grieder. Grieder is also a city councilman who ran unopposed.

Grieder details his radical Leftist beliefs on a regular basis through his social media accounts. And sources tell The Iowa Standard he has a reputation for taking his political beliefs into the classroom.

That seems to make sense considering the following Twitter thread from October of 2017.

“I’m a teacher and it’s my job to educate. Today I had to educate children that gun violence; horrific, terrifying violence is a norm. I had to tell them that 58 people won’t go home, hug their families, kids their loved one (assuming he meant kiss). That your right to bear arms trumps my life.

“Las Vegas is but the latest in a string of tragic and avoidable acts of terrorism. And yet we refuse to act. And the saddest part? My students were just numb, just desensitized to an America where 33,000-plus Americans die from violent preventable acts.

“I refuse this normal. And I sure as hell refuse to allow my children to live in this America. So screw the platitudes. Screw NRA-backed weak-kneed politicians’ thoughts and prayers. Show me action, or shut the hell up.”

We’ll have more throughout the day on Grieder.
