Julia Saville, a junior at St. Margaret’s High School in Virginia, leads a chapter of Turning Point USA. She joined the school’s Black Student Union in an effort to diversify her understanding of cultural issues.
The Daily Wire reported that Saville was attacked for selecting Candace Owens as a “black trailblazer” in honor of Black History Month.
When Saville woke up on Feb. 17, the day she was supposed to present on Owens, a classmate had emailed all staff and students at the school condemning Saville for picking Owens.
According to The Daily Wire, the email said Owens is not someone who should be recognized, “especially during Black History Month when she has done absolutely nothing for the black community.”
“Candace Owens openly tried to degrade the struggles of the black community by telling the general public that America is not a racist country and that everyone who believes that it is is trying to divide America,” it said.
Saville was called “disrespectful” for choosing Owens.
“I feel as though not only was it disrespectful that you added her to the list of trailblazers, it’s offensive that you sat down, thought about it, researched her and thought it was OK to do this,” the email said.
Saville has left the school after the school did nothing to correct the situation.
